Editorial Engagements

Rosemary & Chris : Engaged! - Meg Perotti Wedding Photographer

This post is near and dear to my heart and I know a lot of other people who are near and dear to me will be reading this one too. <3 all you! Rosemary and Chris are great friends of mine- Rosemary and I commiserated over cubicle life at Architectural Digest for a couple years and when she and her fiance Chris moved literally down the street from Tim and I we struck up a most lovely friendship outside of work too! In fact, Tim and I shed tears last year in their apartment when Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States so now we share a "Remember when?" moment together and those are for a lifetime.

These images did not happen overnight- ooooh no, we've been emailing about them long before there was a ring. Which is tooootally okay in my book- we both shared a lot of ideas as to what would be the best way to show something about them and at the same time be editorial and creative. Books and music were natural places to land on for them. Chris works in a library and is a musician and Rosemary is a writer/editor (She also writes a blog called Booking It Bus Style about her book adventures while taking Los Angeles Public Transportation!). They were troopers- rented a U-Haul van and hauled some of their furniture and lots and lots of books out to our location where we set up a mock living room and started shooting away!

Thank you guys so much for giving me the honor of being your wedding photographer- your love is so great and I am so so thankful that I can play a part in your story! Love you!

Without further ado- I give you: "My darling, My Hamburger"

Carly and Chris : Engaged!

UPDATE: Check out this shoot featured on Style Me Pretty, my FAVORITE wedding inspired blog.

http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/05/12/engagement-session-by-meg-perotti/

This is not a not your average engagement shoot. Since I started Operation: Get Inspired a lot of clients have been asking about doing a shoot of that type for their engagement images. I LOVE IT! If any of my other 2009-2010 clients are interested in an editorial engagement shoot- let's chat!

When I met with Carly and Chris months back I was reminded immediately why I love my job so much. They had me at "Madmen." Seriously, if they wouldn't have booked me I would have called them begging and pleading for them to let me shoot their wedding. They are having a throw back to the fabulous sixies wedding in Palm Spring this October and wanted to have their engagement images reflect that style. Seriously, we were meant for each other!

And thanks to the ever amazing Heather Kincaid for coming out to share in the fun! Check out her images on her blog soon!

Kaumyar and Ashley - Anytime Session

When prospective clients view my website they stay there for an average of about 2.5 minutes before either leaving, bookmarking my site, or filling out a contact form. 2.5 minutes! I have 2.5 minutes to make a big enough impression on someone that they'd consider me to photograph one of the biggest days of their lives! I think one of the most important things in deciding who is going to be your photographer is to find someone who's work and personality you love. Such a large part of what's important about your wedding day is the experience and I wanted to find a way to show my clients a little bit of how their experience with me will be before they even meet me. I want them to walk into my home for a consult and already feel like they know a little bit about who I am and what type of imagery I am really about. So! I had the super great and talented Jeff Conrad direct a short video documenting one of my shoots for my main page. I just wanted something simple and romantic and I think Jeff pulled that off so amazingly well! Here are some of the final images that will end up in that video! (Check out the "HOME" link at the top of the page to view the video.)

One location, available light, + video light when it got darker due to impending rain, one assistant, Canon 5D, 50mm 1.2 lens, and two gorgeous clients!

Onward! (Thanks to Tim for being my grip/lighting/assistant/support for the day and to Gabe for loaning her gorgeous fainting couch!)

Kunal Nayyar and Allison Paige

Last weekend I had the utmost pleasure of shooting my friend Kunal Nayyar and the lovely model/actress Allison Paige. Kunal needed some new editorial shots so along with Heather Kincaid and stylist/cousin extroidinaire Morgan Cox I headed out to downtown LA to have some fun. (Morgan was afraid we'd get "caught in a crossfire" ... but everything went smoothly ;) ) This post is long so sit back and enjoy- I had so much fun editing these, all these Operation Get Inspired shoots are really doing their job! Also, you might recognize Kunal from The Big Bang Theory on CBS- he plays Koothrappali - watch it- he's super duper funny as a nerdy scientist. We stuck with a "nerd actor actually CAN get the girl" theme...

We started underneath an overpass- using strobes and 50mm 1.2 and a reflector...

These next two go together perfectly, don't they? Kunal looks so suave! One reason I just love shooting editorially is that you really get a chance to tell a story with your models. I want to try to start adding some of those ideas to my engagement shoots.

Timmy's band used to practice at this old warehouse downtown and I remembered there was access to the train tracks overlooking downtown behind it- we got lucky because someone had already ripped a hole in the fence for us. We almost got caught in the crossfire down here but made it out okay. ;)
